A TEACHING DEVELOPMENT GRANT has been awarded to establish the following programme:
Interprofessional Education (IPE) Programme Model for the HKU Med Community Pharmacy: From Simulation to Real Workplace Setting for Effective Collaborative Practice
A pilot IPE programme brings together BPharm, BNurs, and MBBS students to collaborate in a unique learning environment. The programme aims to form 20 teams of students, each consisting of three members—one from each discipline. Through real-world scenarios encountered in community pharmacy and clinic settings at the HKUMed Community Pharmacy and HKU Health System Clinical Centre, participants will gain invaluable insights into the roles of various healthcare professionals. This hands-on experience is designed to enhance teamwork and develop essential soft skills, preparing our students for effective collaboration in primary healthcare.

Foundation Theories of CM
Understanding of the concepts and fundamental principles of life cultivation, disease prevention and treatment in Chinese medicine.
Diagnostics of CM
Emphasis will be placed on effectively applying various Chinese Medicine (CM) diagnostic thinking in clinical practice to achieve precise syndrome differentiation. To integrate theory with practice, students will be provided with examples, templates, and practical opportunities to understand the key aspects of case writing.
Clinical Attachment I
To provide opportunities for students where they observe clinical practice in a healthcare setting and shadow experienced CM practitioners, and engage in discussions about patient cases.
Medical Ethics and Professionalism in CM Practice
This course comprises two components: medical ethics and professional Chinese medicine practice, emphasizing on application and interpretation of medical ethics, with concepts mostly integrated into real world issues. Students will be able to appreciate the scope of professional and routine practice in Chinese medicine. They will also analyze topics including health concepts and behaviours, stress and coping, experience of illness, doctor-patient interactions and professional communication.
Interprofessional Education
These modules enable students to collaborate with peers from various healthcare professions, enhancing teamwork and communication skills essential for effective patient care, ultimately improving collaborative practice and patient outcomes.
Chinese Internal Medicine
By providing fundamental knowledge and techniques on disease prevention and management in Chinese medicine, these courses equip students with skills that can be applied across various clinical subjects.
Clinical Attachment II
To provide opportunities for students where they observe clinical practice in a healthcare setting and shadow experienced CM practitioners, and engage in discussions about patient cases.
Evidence Based Practice (EBP) and Public Health
Social medicine topics are introduced to let students understand health and illness, health promotion, and the health care system from the wider public health perspective.
Junior Clerkship
During the clerkship, students will rotate through different specialties, gaining practical insights into the application of CM in real-world clinical settings. This experience will enhance their understanding of disease management and broaden their therapeutic skills, preparing them for future practice in the field of CM.
Traumatology and Orthopaedics of CM / Tui-na of CM / Surgery of CM / Gynaecology of CM / Otorhinolaryngology of CM
By providing fundamental knowledge and techniques on disease prevention and management in Chinese medicine, these courses equip students with skills that can be applied across various clinical subjects.
Interprofessional Education

Life Cultivation and Health Care of Chinese Medicine
This course provides a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental theories and therapeutic practices of Chinese Medicine, with a specific focus on life cultivation and healthcare. Through a combination of theoretical studies and practical training, students will learn how to effectively prevent diseases and aging, and promote good health using Chinese medicine approaches.
Therapeutics in Acupuncture and Moxibustion / Paediatrics of CM / Ophthalmology of CM
By providing fundamental knowledge and techniques on disease prevention and management in Chinese medicine, these courses equip students with skills that can be applied across various clinical subjects.

Clinical practicum at community centres and aged care centres
School of Nursing
To enhance the knowledge of Primary Healthcare among students at HKU, a new Common Core Course (CCC) titled “AI, Health and Me,” which focuses on how AI is reshaping primary healthcare, will be offered. This interdisciplinary course equips students with technical insight, ethical awareness, and innovation-driven thinking, preparing them to navigate the evolving AI-driven healthcare landscape in their everyday live. The course, targeted to start in the academic year 2025/26, will be taught by professors from various fields, including Medicine, Nursing, and Engineering.
